The test presented here is the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), developed by Morin, Belleville, Bélanger, and Ivers (2011, Harvard Medical School — Division of Sleep Medicine). It is a 7-item questionnaire that evaluates the CURRENT (last 2 weeks) severity of insomnia: difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, problems waking up too early, satisfaction with current sleep pattern, how noticeable the sleep problem is to others, worry/distress about the sleep problem, and interference with daily functioning.
The test is designed for self-completion and takes only 1–2 minutes. The result is not a medical diagnosis and does not replace consultation with a specialist.
Insomnia, anxiety, and depression are often intertwined in practice and can reinforce one another. If you are more concerned about anxiety, tension, or worry, our anxiety test may help. If you are more concerned about low mood, loss of interest, or lack of energy, our depression test may help.
